SummaryThis is the Technician Stage of the AAT qualification. It is intended for those who are working towards AAT membership after a period of work experience at an appropriate level.
QualificationsAn NVQ 4 in Accounting, accredited by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT). On achievement of qualification and 1 year full time work experience students can become members of AAT.
Progression RoutesStudents may progress to the professional examinations of CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA and ICAEW.
ModulesContributing to the Management of Performance & Enhancement of Value Conributing to the Planning & Control of Resources Managing Systems & People in the Accounting Environment Drafting Financial Statements, plus TWO from the following: Operating a Cash Management & Credit Control System Implementing Auditing Procedures Preparing Business Taxation Computations Preparing Personal Taxation Computations.
Entry RequirementsApplicants should have successfully completed NVQ 3 in Accounting.
Additional CostsAAT registration fee: currently £72, revised annually in September Examination fee (three compulsory papers @ £46, two Taxation papers @ £46): up to £230 Books: £135 approximately.
Course ContentThe qualification is gained by the demonstration of competence in a range of units which reflect the work of a senior accounts employee and a production of a portfolio.
ConcessionsFor Further Education Full and Part-time courses (not applicable for Higher Education courses): Students under the age of 19 on 31 August will not be charged tuition fees for the period but will pay costs incurred during the course and examination fees for subjects not part of their main course. Students may also be able to apply for an Educational Maintenance Allowance; for further information please contact Student Welfare on 01284 716319 or the EMA help line on (free phone) 080 810 16 2 19. Students aged 19 or over on 1 September will be required to pay the full fee, unless they are eligible for remission of fees under the College's concessionary arrangements, plus a College registration fee, examination and awarding body fees and all other costs incurred during the course. How to applyFor Further Education Full and Part-time courses: Applications for courses are welcome throughout the year. Wherever possible we will provide early confirmation of your place and ask you to complete the enrolment process in due course. Some places will be offered provisionally subject to achievement of examination grades, other requirements and sufficient course capacity. For more information please visit our website on www.wsc.ac.uk or complete an application form and return it to The Information Centre, West Suffolk College, Out Risbygate, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk IP33 3RL. You will then be invited to visit the College to meet the staff and talk about your individual needs. Interviews usually commence from January onwards.
For Higher Education Full-time courses: Applications must be made through UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service). You will need to apply online via www.ucas.com. UCAS starts receiving applications for full-time courses on 1 September in the year prior to you starting your course. Ideally, your application should be with UCAS before the beginning of January of the year you are commencing study although the College normally considers later applications. The final deadline is 30 June and applications after this date are via the UCAS "clearing system".
